You Will Need

Labelled ingredients needed to make a strawberries and lime fruit salad.

Substitutions and Inspiration

We have kept this salad simple by just using strawberries - mainly because they were such a bargain at the farmers market but also, to keep things simple.

  • You could also add any berries that take your fancy, or try adding kiwi fruit, mangoes, and pineapples as they all pair beautifully here.
  • Add some fresh coconut for a tropical flavour.
  • Roasted almonds for nuttiness and crunch.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 - Start With the Dressing

Melt the honey in a small saucepan and allow to cool slightly.

Cut the kaffir lime leaves into ribbons chiffonade style, step by step details are in our chiffonade post.

Add the kaffir ribbons, melted honey and lime juice into a small glass jar and shake to combine.

Leave to one side to allow the flavours to meld together.

Step 2 - Prep Strawberries

First, place your strawberries in a colander and rinse well under gently running cold water, so as not to damage them.

Strawberries absorb water easily so that is why it is best to wash and then hull them. Leave them in your colander to drain.

Serving Ideas 🍓

  • with Greek yoghurt to snack on
  • with whipped ricotta, whipped cream or coconut ice cream  as a light dessert
  • as a topping for cheesecake
  • alongside chocolate cake

Tips and Questions

What Are Kaffir Lime Leaves?

  • Kaffir lime leaves are also known as makrut lime and Thai lime, they are a crucial ingredient in Southeast Asian dishes.
  • They have a wonderful citrusy aroma and are deep green and glossy. One leaf looks like two leaves joined together just like twins.
  • Look for shiny, glossy leaves and avoid curled-up and dried-looking leaves.
  • They keep well in paper or plastic in your fridge for a week and can also be frozen for up to a year.

What Can I Use Instead of Kaffir / Makrut Lime Leaves?

  • They are readily available in most supermarkets in the herb part of the fruit and veg section or at your Asian greengrocer.
  • If you are unable to find these aromatic beauties then you can use the zest from one large lime to make up a tablespoon of zest.

Can It Be Made Ahead?

Yes indeedy! In fact, do yourself a favour and make it the day before. The flavours will meld together for an even tastier fruit salad experience.

The perfect dessert for summertime entertaining.
